Kweisi Gharreau

The Love Story behind Innocent Rage

Meet Kweisi Gharreau

After his brother’s homicide, Kweisi sought solace in poetry. Which became a vehicle to express his intense anger, but also the cultural, political and environmental circumstances that lead up to his brother’s homicide. As an example, listen to “Black Man,” spoken word by Kweisi.

“I never planned on becoming a poet…If I wasn’t blessed with my story, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”

Standing over his brother’s grave, praying for guidance. Consequently, he came to the conclusion forgiveness was the only way to solace and peace. As a result, he wrote to his brother’s killers, met them, and forgave them. After meeting them, Kweisi began looking for his voice in poetry. Eventually leading to his self-published book Innocent Rage.

“Writing poetry allowed me to commit suicide on paper…that was my action…I found my purpose in poetry.”
