Transforming Tragedy
We believe depression is suppressed expression, that truth is better revealed in fiction, and that the truth will set us free.
Shadows are meant to be illuminated in fiction and integrated in reality.
As Journal-Artists, we transform tragedy through creative writing, and allow our creative writing to inform our true path in reality, so we may act out the path that leads to freedom, meaning, and love.

Who we are
We are journal-artists on the path of transforming pain into the pursuit of passion and purpose by examining our life experiences inside the realm of fiction.

I've always been interested in writing from a young age. I got a BA in English Literature and a Minor in Writing. I've been with The Love Story since 2019. Combining writing with mental health and expressing emotions has been a growing experience for me and I enjoy helping people connect and express their feelings through writing.

Mingjie Zhai
PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND BOARD DIRECTOR VOLUNTEER
I founded The Love Story org in 2005, initially to cope with the pain of heartbreak and grief, but over time, built a community, felt the catharsis, and became connected to my purpose. In 2025, our goal is to fully develop the first three chapters of The Love Story writing program. This program has worked for me and my desire is for this program to work for others as well.
